One thing I feel is hard to keep up with each year is the changing trends. I love basic pieces and I think we all need to invest in pieces that will last season to season and year to year. However, I like keeping up with current trends. So, I searched the inter webs, looked at runway styles none of us understand, and put together a basic list for you. Before we jump into those trends, let’s talk about trends sticking around.
Here we go! For the love, florals are sticking around this season. My floral obsessed closet is happy to hear that. Your basic white tank and straw hat will be a summer hit for years to come. So, take good care of those. Your asymmetrical neck lines will still be in style, but I’ll show you in a minute how they are getting an upgrade.
Now for the bad news and news I refuse to believe or listen to. Elle magazine says maxi lengths are leaving us behind. I still have maxi dresses in my spring/summer wardrobe and plan to take care of them so they will have some lasting power for years.
AND there is an odd plastic trend that I do not understand!
Enough about that! Let’s talk trends you can SHOP!! I tried to keep the prices reasonable. I’m not talking $15 Target reasonable, but the ethical reasonable. We know that is going to be just a little more expensive.
Pastels of any shade are IN and IN! My favorite is lavender, but, in my search, I found mainly a soft and blush pink amongst our ethical/fair trade friends.
Yellow is just going to be big, if yellow goes with your skin. Personally, I love yellow, but it just doesn’t work with my skin tone. If it works for you, rock it this spring and summer. I love this bright Kaftan from Sseko Designs. I love all their apparel, but this bright print makes me want to go back to the beach and set up camp for the season.
Polka Dots are Back!
I think I love this. I had a hard time finding ethical brands who are rocking a pure polka dot. Some have prints in polka, but they are not dots. However, this is a good time to talk consignment, swap, and thrifting. In just a few minutes, I found this beautiful summer dress on ThredUp.
Asymmetrical Necklines & Hems
This is a play on the cold shoulder and I know some of you are going to love this. If you are unsure, head over to Nordstrom’s or Banana Republic and try one on before purchasing an ethical piece online. I do this often. Go to a store and try on a similar style and see if you love it or not.
Fringe is all around us! You'll find this on purses, earrings, your spring sweaters, and even jean jackets! This is another trend I am not finding a lot of in our ethical clothing lines, but our accessories are full of fringe.
There you go! How are you feeling about your spring/summer wardrobe? We would love to hear what you are thinking about spring trends and what you are going to add to your collection this season!
